Taxonomic history

Transferred to the genus Leodice by (Arias Rodríguez, 2015 [thesis]; Arias Rodríguez et al., 2015)

Conservation Status

Rediscovered in April 2011 (Arias Rodríguez et al., 2015)

Distribution

Mediterranean Sea (France: Nice and Marseille & Italy: Palermo) [not recorded again since type collection]; Spain: Bay of Biscay (Gijón, Asturias & Santander Bay) (rediscovered populations)

"However, we expect that L. laurillardi is more widely distributed among the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Iberia and has at times been misidentified as L. torquata. A detailed and widespread sampling campaign and re-examination of museum holdings would be required in order to ascertain the real distribution of this species in Europe."

(Arias Rodríguez et al., 2015:481)

Biology & Ecology

"Leodice laurillardi is known from the littoral shores of the eastern and central Mediterranean (Quatrefages 1866) and northeastern Atlantic Ocean, southern Bay of Biscay, being reported in an intertidal-shallow subtidal rocky-shore community"

(Arias Rodríguez et al., 2015:478)
